Inaugural Feigin Rising Stars Research Symposium

The inaugural Feigin Rising Stars Research Symposium will be held from 9am to 5pm on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in the Blue Bird Circle Auditorium, 7th Floor of the Duncan Neurological Research Institute. Faculty, fellows, students, and other trainees are welcome to attend all or part of the symposium, as schedules permit. No registration or RSVP is required.

Texas Children’s and Baylor College participate in a multicenter study to evaluate readiness for future STXBP1 disorders clinical trials

Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine clinicians and research investigators have recently launched the STXBP1 Clinical Trial Ready (STARR), a new study focused on developing clinical trial readiness for STXBP1-related disorders, an epileptic and neurodevelopmental condition caused by changes in the STXBP1 gene.

Rett patients receive a new gene therapy treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine

Texas Children’s Hospital, an internationally-recognized, top-ranked children’s hospital and pediatric research center affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, is the first to deliver a novel gene therapy to treat Rett syndrome in pediatric patients. Two female patients with Rett syndrome were the first children worldwide to receive this promising treatment.

Dr. Ryan Dhindsa receives a grant to study aging

Dr. Ryan Dhindsa, assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine and principal investigator at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (Duncan NRI) at Texas Children’s Hospital and recent recipient of the prestigious 2023 NIH Director’s Early Independence Award, has received The Longevity Impetus grant to support his research on aging. This grant will provide Dr. Dhindsa who is a physician-scientist with $200,000 over two years to pursue his research project titled, “Genetic resilience to Aging”.

Duncan NRI honors Henry Engel's legacy to Rett research

The balcony on the 7th floor of the state-of-the-art Duncan NRI auditorium has been dedicated to the memory of Henry Engel, son of Richard and Mary Engel, who had Rett Syndrome and passed away in Aug 2022. This condition mainly affects girls and is very rare in boys. Henry carried a one-of-a-kind mutation in the MECP2 gene, detailed studies of which have helped Dr. Huda Zoghbi and her team better understand this rare genetic condition with the eventual goal of developing therapies for patients with this devastating disorder.
